Undefeated Dmitriy Salita of Brooklyn, N.Y. and hard-hitting Anthony ‘The Messenger’ Thompson of Philadelphia will headline a huge undercard of bouts on the Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. DeMarcus Corley championship fight card May 22 at Boardwalk Hall. Top Rank, in association with Caesars Atlantic City and Bally’s Atlantic City, also announced today that the undercard will include New Jersey boxers Scott DePompe, Dennis Sharpe and popular New York light-heavyweight Victor Paz. The 12-round WBC elimination bout between Mayweather and Corley will be televised live on HBO.
Tickets for this evening of boxing are priced at $250, $150, $100, $75, and $50. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the first bout starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall Box Office, by calling TicketMaster at 1-800-736-1420, or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
Salita, 17-0, 11 KOs, is a 2001 New York Golden Gloves champion. He won the Sugar Ray Robinson Award as Best Boxer in that tournament. Salita is a popular, tactically-smart super lightweight who attacks from many different angles. Here, he will take on Kevin Watts, 18-5, 7 KOs of Boston in an eight-round bout. Many of Salita fans will be traveling from New York to Atlantic City on fight night.
Thompson, 15-1, 12 KOs, of Philadelphia is regarded as one of the top boxers from the city. He is taking on welterweight Jason Naugler, 8-2, 5 KOs, of Alberta, Canada. While Thompson has excellent technical skills, Naugler is an extremely hard puncher which makes this a compelling eight-round match-up.
Scott DePompe, 25-4, 10 KOs, of Kennelon, N.J. is taking on welterweight Art Medina, 11-11, 4 KOs, of Denver in a six-round bout.
Dennis Sharpe, 16-0-1, 4 KOs, of Jersey City, N.J. will be in a four-bout clash in the super middleweight division.
Victor Paz, 3-0, of New York, will be in a four-round bout in the light-heavyweight division.
Wes Ferguson, 5-0, 2 KOs and who boxes for Team Mayweather, will take on lightweight William Foster, 2-2-1, 1 KO, of New Haven, Conn. Ferguson is trained by Roger Mayweather who is chief trainer for ‘Pretty Boy.’ Ferguson was born and raised in Flint, Michigan.
Carney Bowman, pro debut, of York, Pa. will box four rounds in the super featherweight division. |
