Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 15, 2004--K-1 action is back in the U.S. and the anticipation in Sin City has reached new levels. On Friday, April 30 the fiercest K-1 competitors will fight it out during “Battle at the Bellegio II” at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. K-1, with its customary eight-man, single elimination tournament swept into North America four years ago and its popularity continues to grow. The April 30 event allows regional participants from all over the world an opportunity to capture this year's K-1 World Grand Prix Championship, later down the road in Tokyo in December. The circuit is the hottest and most action packed fighting sport in the world that combines heavyweight fighters from all stand-up fighting disciplines into a ring to determine a single champion. The ring at the Bellagio will not see a dull moment on April 30.

The complete roster of fighters for the April 30 event are yet to be announced, however it will take shape over the next few weeks and those who are tentative candidates ensure an exciting sequel to the first “Battle At The Bellagio.” Some of the names that have surfaced as possible participants include 2003 K-1 USA champion Carter Williams, two-time K-1 tournament champion Michael McDonald, two-time world kickboxing champion Dewey “The Black Kobra” Cooper and Superfight Veteran Cung Le. Others rumored to participate include former heavyweight boxing championship challenger, Shannon Briggs and former International Boxing Federation world heavyweight champion, Francois Botha – this would mark their North American K-1 debuts.

“We are excited about bringing K-1 back to the United States for 2004,” says Scott Coker, K-1 USA president. “It’s a sport that is taking the country by storm and we are confident that the Bellagio’s match-ups will be some of the most thrilling the ring has ever seen.”

In the turbulent K-1 world, this is sure to be an event that will change the course of destiny for several fighters, as upsets and surprises are all part of the K-1 package. Throughout the course of the next few weeks, the April 30 lineup will be gradually filled to determine who will fight whom. ABOUT K-1

Since its debut in Japan in 1993, K-1 has become the hottest and most action-packed fighting sport in the world. K-1 is martial arts fighting circuit designed to gather heavyweight fighters from all stand-up fighting disciplines into the ring to determine a single champion. In order to wear the crown of K-1 champion, a fighter must win three consecutive fights in a single night. The tournament consists of 22 events taking place in 20 countries around the world. The “K” comes from the first letter of the various styles of martial arts that make up K-1: Karate, Kickboxing, Kung Fu, Kakutogi and Tae Kwon Do. The “1” means the champion is truly “Number One.”
