In a fresh report on the LA Times as well as various sources on social media, Boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya is confirming that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) vs. James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs)is set for May and to be televised by HBO.
According to the LA Times report, the date and site have not been finalized. De La Hoya will hold the fight on May 2nd unless Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao is finalized for that date. If that is the case (Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2nd), De La Hoya will pick another date in May. However if Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto happens on May 2nd (not Pacquiao), De La Hoya will have Canelo vs. Kirkland also on that date.
Quoted by the publication regarding Canelo vs. Kirkland, De La Hoya stated that
Alvarez "said this fight is going to be like two Mack trucks colliding.” De La Hoya added: “I can’t wait for this fight."
