C'mon, admit it! To us outsiders we sometimes wonder if the good folks who make up the Philippines, love anything other than great fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire and Ana Julaton. Well apparently "The Pacman", "The Filipino Flash" and "The Hurricane" aren't the only super men (and woman) of note winning the hearts and minds of the great people in the Philippines.... enter Superman! On Philippines Independence Day, it wasn't Pacquiao or Donaire stealing the show, but rather the "Man of Steel." (The new Superman movie, starring Henry Cavill and directed by Zack Snyder. The movie opened late last night in selected North America theaters.)
Warner Bros. Pictures released information that 'Man Of Steel' pulled a serious KO in its Philippines debut with a record opening of $1.7 million (PHP 69.3m) to set the biggest opening day in the territory’s history.
'Man of Steel' was launched on 466 local screens and drew 347,626 admissions on Philippines Independence Day.
Say what you want, but you know this much... when the Filipino people get behind someone (or something)... you know it becomes instantly worldwide famous (a bona fide hit)... so I am pretty much safetly guessing that with these early results from the Filipino marketplace... Warner Bros. has a certified blockbuster with the new Superman movie.
If you haven't guessed it by now... as a child I loved Boxing (favorite sport to watch) and the best hero for me was Superman. Apparently a lot of Kids in the Philippines had similar tastes growing up too!
