In a recent interview by Phil Cadden for the Wales On Sunday, WBA light-welterweight champion Gavin Rees declares he wants to fight Ricky Hatton in a summer showdown.

Rees must first get through his next challenge if he hopes to lure Hatton into a fight. Rees is set to fight at the Cardiff International Arena on Saturday against Andreas
Kotelnik, while Hatton is set to Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium on May 24.

Quoted by the Wales on Sunday, Rees stated: “It’s great news that Ricky is taking on a fight for May.”

Rees went on to add: “I’m fighting this weekend so it means we will both be free to get the fight on at the end of the summer."

“It would have been a big disappointment if he had decided to fight in August or September because that would have ruled out any chance of it taking place. I’m delighted that’s not the case because I really fancy the challenge of taking him on."

A fight with Hatton is a fight that Rees wants to prove he is the best. “I would love to prove to everyone that I’m Britain’s number one,” said Rees.
