Andreas Kotelnik finishes off Gavin Rees to win title

Gavin Rees lost the first defence of his WBA light-welterweight title Saturday night after being stopped by Andreas Kotelnik in the 12th round by TKO.

Rees almost appeared to succumb in the sixth when Kotelnik hit him with a right, but managed to fight his way through. Not helping matters for Rees, Kotelnik bloodied his nose early in the fight.

The fight seemed to be heading to the scorecards when in the final minute Kotelnik struck Rees with a well planted and powerful right hand. The punch made Rees hit the canvass. Rees got back up but took some more shots from Kotelnik. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

Rees fought hard, but it was Kotelnik who was the better man, handing Rees his first loss in his professional career
