Regrets over Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz? Oscar De La Hoya says "No"

When asked, De La Hoya said he had no regrets putting Ortiz in against Mayweather so soon after the Berto win. As first title defenses are concerned, Mayweather might have set the record as the toughest ever.

“No, because Ortiz, if you take a look at that fight, Ortiz was coming on,” said De La Hoya. “He was getting closer to Mayweather. He was getting closer. Look at the fight over and over again. He was getting closer to Mayweather. Yeah, Mayweather was pot-shotting him with one right. That’s normal. That’s fine but Victor was getting closer and closer and what a fighter does inside the ring we have no control over. I believe in his abilities, that he can beat Mayweather. Obviously, that didn’t happen because of [Ortiz]’s actions inside the ring. I think Victor can do a lot of damage to a lot of great fighters, including a Mayweather. I think the winner of this fight will position himself to possibly face a Mayweather, possibly facing ‘Canelo.’ Possibly facing Kirkland. Possibly even facing Miguel Cotto, depending on how he looks. So there are a lot of good fights that can possibly happen from this event.”
