By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing - Nonito Donaire who has been making a name for himself as an exciting fighter and definitely one for Boxing fans to keep tabs on, faces off against Omar Narvaez in New York City at Madison Square Garden's Theater. The fight will be televised live Saturday night on HBO, 10:30 p.m. ET. Check your local cable provider or satelite dish receiver for further details.

Donaire has roots to his nation of the Phillipines as well as America, a country he moved to when he was 10. Being of Filipino heritage, he is often compared to fellow countryman and fighter, Manny Pacquiao. It has been often rumored that Donaire resents being compared to Pacquiao, however according to Donaire himself, nothing could be further from the truth. Fact is that Donaire finds it an honor to be compared to Pacquiao.

In a recent interview with Bob Velin of USA Today, Donaire was asked if it was true that he did not like being compared to Manny Pacquiao?

USA Today asked Doanaire: "I know you and Manny Pacquiao are friends, but you don't like being compared to Manny. Is that true?"

Donaire responded to the question, stating: "That's not true. The comparison to Manny gives me honor. To be compared with one of the great fighters of his time, to me that means I've made it somehow, and I need to get better, and I always want to get better."

Donaire went on to add: "But it's something that motivates me, that people are acknowledging my success, acknowledging my boxing style, and my excitement. I mean, to be compared to Manny you have to be an exciting fighter, and to me, that's a great honor. I'm not much of a guy with a lot of pride. The only pride I have is that I'm going to do my best to win, and I always feel like I'm going to win, and I always feel like I'm going to beat whoever they put in front of me in my weight class. But my pride in being compared to other people is something I don't brag about or take seriously. But I do take honor if I am compared to someone such as Manny."

So there you have it folks... then next time you hear Donaire has some hard feelings about being compared to Pacquiao, you'll know the truth and that's just not the case.

Funny thing is, when I think of Donaire, Pacquiao does not pop into my mind. What does pop into my mind is a fighter of his own, a man who at only 28 is an exciting fighter and very skillful in his own right. So far I have enjoyed watching him fight and his last fight was in February, a thriller where he scored a second-round TKO victory against Fernando Montiel.
