Hatton was quoted by the publication in regards to why he won't fight Witter, noting it all happened at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards held in Birmingham. Hatton stated: "I was half contemplating fighting him but it all changed at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year
awards in Birmingham."

Hatton went on to add: "They got me up, Joe Calzaghe, Enzo Maccarinelli, Clinton Woods and Witter. We all walked to the stage and I shook hands with them all. Witter leaned over to me and whispered ‘One day.’"

It was at that moment Hatton decided Witter was not worthy. Until that moment, Hatton was actually considering a fight with Wiiter. "I just thought, ‘You’ve just peed that up against the wall there.’ I really was thinking about getting in the ring with him," said Hatton.
