Roy Jones Jr not involved in Dogfighting

According to published reports in the media Local Florida authorities aren’t buying allegations against Roy Jones Jr. in regards to Dogfighting

Quoted by Michael Stewart for PRN.com, the Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille said: “At this stage, it would be more in law enforcement’s realm.”

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Glenn Austin was also quoted by the publication stating in regards to Jones Jr and any compliants of him dogfighting, saying: “We haven’t had a complaint filed with us.”

Jones Jr was originally quoted recently by the New York Daily News stating he allowed pit bulls on his ranch to fight.

Jones Jr's attorney Fred Levin clarified the statements made by Jones Jr by stating: “Roy doesn’t dogfight,” Levin further explained: “He’s got dogs and all kinds of animals out there. Dogs being dogs — when they are out playing together — will sometimes get in a fight. If they do, he pulls them apart.”

If Jones Jr was involved in Dogfighting than it would be safe and natural to assume that some complaints would have been filed by now, however that is not the case. No complaints against Jones Jr. have ever been filed with Escambia County Animal Control, according to county spokeswoman Sonya Daniel.

Jones Jr, says his comments to New York Daily News reporter Ian Begley were taken out of context, saying that he was relating an incident that occurred as a kid in which he had let one of his dogs mix it up with another dog. Jones Jr. denies that he has ever been involved in pitting dogs against one another as an adult, and also confirmed he has never as an adult been present at a real dog fight.

Jones Jr. in the past has lent his voice for support to Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. Vick was sentenced last month to serve 23 months in prison for “cruel and inhumane” dogfighting which occurred on his property. While defending Vick, Jones Jr. always said he has never been involved in dogfighting.
