Yahoo goes Bonkers on Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr II - Boxing
The Hard Punch by Johnny Benz (Jan 19, 2008) Doghouse Boxing
A lot of writers and even fighters have publicly spoken on their distaste to see Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr go at it again this year (a rematch is very likely to happen in September of this year.) I don't know where to begin, but you folks thinking like that need to shut up.

Aside from the fact that a guy like De La Hoya has the right to try and win a rematch and avenge his loss, the sport of Boxing deserves and needs the high profile it receives when these two colossal fighter go into a rematch.

Yesterday on Yahoo.com, the internet's Official Home page, (That's right folks....no other home page on the internet gets as much traffic as yahoo.com's home page.... go ahead, check Alexa.com and see it's number one rank for yourself,) De La Hoya was the Feature. Pictured alongside of De La Hoya was
also Mayweather Jr. Boxing doesn't make the Feature on Yahoo.com very often.... so when it does....you take note. As a bonus, Roy Jones Jr. vs Tito Trinidad was also featured below De la Hoya and Mayweather on Yahoo.com.

This kind of coverage is great for the sport of Boxing. This is just an example of what great exposure did for Boxing in 2007. You'd have to be an idiot, and a selfish one at that to not want Boxing to enjoy the perks that come when these two rematch.

De La Hoya vs Mayweather Jr II is good business... and that's across the board.

This fight is great for Boxing period. So don't be stupid and write articles dissing this fight, or saying its not worth it. First of all De La Hoya fought more than well enough to honestly deserve a rematch. It's his head getting the punches... not yours. Secondly, you all know damn well the sport of Boxing needs this fight and will do great from the exposure.

One look at Yahoo's homepage yesterday and seeing De La Hoya and Mayweather as the "Featured" story, only proves what is in store for Boxing in 2008. With De La Hoya and Mayweather doing a rematch, you can bet this fight will once again exceed just the fan base of Boxing. To me, it would be selfish not to want to see Boxing get the limelight it so richly deserves.... and let's face it, no other fight will get more exposure than De La Hoya vs Mayweather Jr. Go ahead, try and name one fight that would.

De La Hoya deserves a rematch and Boxing deserves the exposure.
