A fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao seems more and more likely to happen. Richard Schaefer, the CEO of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, says the rumours for the match-up aren't ridiculous. Schaefer a fight between the pair is a definite possibility, and could end up as De La Hoya's farewell bout. De La Hoya's last fight will happen late this year or in the early part of 2009.

Quoted by SportingLife, Schaefer stated in regards to Pacquiao and De La Hoya fighting one another: "I do see a
chance for that. The person who actually came up with the idea is Larry Merchant (HBO commentator), who I consider to be one of the foremost boxing experts today. There is history of smaller fighters moving up and fighting bigger guys. Roy Jones Jr moved up 40lbs or so to fight in the heavyweight division.

Schaefer went on to add: "So there definitely is a precedent to that and a possibility that something like that could happen."

Pacquiao is deep in training for a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The rematch will take place on March 15.

In regards to Pacquiao's upcoming challenge against Marquez, Schaefer stated: "It's almost sold out, very few tickets remaining. We anticipate it will sell out before fight week. There's a tremendous amount of interest. Mexicans see that Marquez is their last legend standing after Pacquiao dismantled Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera."
