According to published reports in the media, Bernard Hopkins is ready to face Joe Calzaghe. Hopkins said on Friday that preliminary talks have started in regards to himself and Calzaghe facing one another sometime in the middle of summer of 2008.

In regards to negotiations, Hopkins hopes to have a deal closed before the end of this year.

Quoted in the media, Hopkins stated: "I want to have the fight in mid-summer and we want to close this deal before the year ends."

Hopkins is hoping to have the fight showcase at Yankee Stadium. The world renown Yankee Stadium is due for closure in 2008, but Hopkins hopes to have one last great boxing venue held at the famous location.

"It would be a wonderful event for it before it closes down," Hopkins said. "Sugar Ray Robinson fought there. Joe Louis fought there. This is a fight that would do well at the gate."

Hopkins was to have fought Calzaghe back in 2003, but negotiations fell apart over cash.
