By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. UPDATE: Vitali has come out and clarified that he did NOT intend to make it sound as if he had retired from boxing. "There is no talk about the end of my career," Klitschko wrote on his Facebook page. Klitschko added: "I'm sorry if I didn't put enough emphasis on this at the news conference."
Vitali Klitschko retiring from boxing? It seems to be the case. At a recent press conference in Donetsk (a large city in eastern Ukraine on the Kalmius River), Klitschko told those on hand that he did not plan on fighting in the ring anymore and planed on taking his next step into the Ukrainian political ring. Klitschko also let it be known that his younger brother, Wladimir would continue on boxing.
Quoted
in the media, Vitali stated: "I can say to all fans of boxing, that the
Ukrainian flag will be raised many times and the Ukrainian anthem will
sound, when Klitschko comes into the ring." Klitschko added: "If you're
referring to me, then I'm not going to fight. I have a brother, who is
like me but is younger and more talented. So I was meaning my younger
brother Wladimir."
Do I think retirement is a good
idea for Vitali? Of course I do. What is there left for him to prove? A fight with David Haye? Let's be honest, we already know the outcome
of what that fight would be... we've seen Haye already drop a fight to
Wladimir.. can we really expect a different outcome with the elder
Klitschko vs. Haye?! Of course not. The only other fight out there for
him would be against his younger brother...but that fight would be
disgusting, a farce and not even reasonable. So yeah, I think
retirement is the only obvious choice... especially if he wants to jump
into politics.
