Floyd Mayweather returns to Boxing on May 5th?!

Floyd Mayweather
By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. I'd like to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in the ring soon, but who am I kidding? I understand, with all the hard partying, high stakes gambling and fast exotic cars that Mayweather loyally attends too these days, who would have the time for Boxing? Seriously though, I think it's high time that Mayweather Jr. put an end to all that extra activity and get back in training for an upcoming fight.  As it stands, it looks like it's going to be months and months until we see Mayweather back.

According to a recent report by Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review Journal, Mayweather's return to boxing may be as far off as May 5th of 2013.  That would mean that Mayweather has been out one full year to the day (his last fight was on May 5th of this year against Miguel Cotto.)  That is a long time to for fans to wait, but it might be worth it if his opponent is none other than Manny Pacquiao.

Regarding the possibility of Mayweather returning on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) Carp wrote in a recent column; "(Todd) DuBoef (Top Rank President) said he remains optimistic Pacquiao and Mayweather can fight in the spring. Mayweather reportedly plans to fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend in 2013. And if that is indeed the case, it's not too late to strike a deal to face Pacquiao."

As much as I like watching Mayweather fight, I just don't think a full year of inactivity is good for him, his fans or the sport.  He is his own man though, and I am sure we will see him again soon... I just wish that he would fight 2 to 3 times a year.  I really don't think that is much to ask for. Now should the unthinkable happen and Mayweather Jr. actually fights Pacman on May 5th (or sometime around that date), he could end up regretting that he wasted that much time away from the ring. It will only be an advantage for Manny Pacquiao.  Like I said, at the start... I think it's time that Mayweather Jr. make his way back to the ring... and make it sooner rather than later.
