By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. On Saturday night at Home Depot Center in Carson, California, live on HBO "Boxing After Dark", featured on the undercard to Nonito Donaire vs. Toshiaka Nishioka, Jose Benavidez Jr. survived a scary last round to defeat Pavel Miranda by a unanimous decision.
The 8 rounds battle saw all three judges favor Benavidez Jr. with identical scores of 79-73.
Benavidez
Jr. was in control of the fight the whole way through but ran into a
wicked left hook in round 8 (the final round). The punch sent Benavidez
Jr. into survival mode, clenching Miranda as his legs looked weak and
shaky.
With the victory, Benavidez Jr. professional record now improves 17-0 with 13 KO. Miranda sees his record fall to 17-9.
