Brandon Rios
By Johnny Benz, Doghouse Boxing. On Saturday night at the Home Depot Center, Los Angeles, Cali., live on HBO "Boxing After Dark", featured on the undercard to Nonito Donaire vs. Toshiaka Nishioka, Brandon Rios defeated Mike Alvarado in an all out war. Rios won the jr. welterweight battle when the ref stopped the fight in the 7th round.

With the victory, Rios sees his professional record improve to 31-0-1, with 22KOs. Alvarado picks up his first loss and sees his record drop to 33-1, with 23KOs.

The fight opened to a volley of punches from both fighters and the pace and excitement worked its way through the whole fight.  It was a close fight going into the 7th, but when Rios landed a powerful right hand near the end of the round, it left Alvarado up against the ropes and unable to defend himself. At this point the Ref halted the fight.
