Joe Calzaghe on Oscar De La Hoya and Mike Tyson being Washed up

Joe Calzaghe feels it's time for Oscar De La Hoya to call it a day after watching De La Hoya get thumped by Manny Pacquiao this past Saturday. Calzaghe who is considering hanging up the gloves himself, feels De La Hoya has been a part time fighter for years and it has finally caught up with him. In short, Calzaghe thinks De La Hoya is washed up.

In a video with The Western Mail, Calzaghe discussed De La Hoya and his feelings that De La Hoya should retire. Calzaghe stated: “Oscar has done tremendous things in his career, but there comes a time for everybody to call it a day."

Calzaghe went on, using the name Mike Tyson as an example for how some boxers are done (washed up) at a young age. “Mike Tyson was probably finished when he was 29, although some people peak at 40. Everybody is different in this sport. De La Hoya may be two years younger than me, but I am a hungry guy. He has got a lot more money than me as well. That’s the big difference in this. He really didn’t need to keep fighting,” said Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is strongly considering retiring from boxing himself and will use the Christmas Holidays to reflect on a decision.
