A Drug Bust Killed Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao... How About Shane Mosley? By Johnny Benz (Jan 22, 2010) Doghouse Boxing
Strict testing for steroids and performance enhancing drugs is the major reason why negotiations for "Money" Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fell apart. For now the mega event that was to be, is not to be. Team Mayweather Jr. is now in negotiations with "Sugar" Shane Mosley, a fighter who according to published reports has admitted that he unknowingly in the past used banned steroids known as "the cream" and "the clear" as well as energy boosting EPO leading up to his 2003 clash against Oscar De La Hoya.
So should fans expect that the negotiations for Mayweather Jr. vs. Mosley will include in the contract strict Olympic style drug testing? The same kind of drug testing Team Mayweather wanted from Pacquiao? You betcha! According to "Money" Mayweather Jr's advisor, Leonard Ellerbe, any fighter Mayweather Jr. faces will have to agree to random blood tests along with random urine samples to check against illegal steroids and performance enhancing drugs.
Quoted recently the L.A. Times, Ellerbe who was happy with the way negotiations with Mosley have been so far, stated: "Floyd has made it clear that any man who steps into the ring against him must agree to random blood and urine tests."
