Boxing Top 3 P4P - Floyd Mayweather 1st, then Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley
By Johnny Benz (April 23, 2010) Doghouse Boxing
For me the Pound for Pound best means you have the best skills amongst your peers in the sport. It doesn't matter what weight you are, Pound for Pound best is based on skill vs skill. Both Ring Magazine and ESPN rank Manny Pacquiao as the pound for pound best, followed by Floyd Mayweather Jr and Shane Mosley.

I prefer Ring Magazine, and honestly, I've never really cared for ESPN's ranks. It's not a jab at ESPN, I just believe real Boxing fans don't check out or care much for ESPN's ranks. Still, I use them as an example to what many in
media believe are the top pound for pound in Boxing. They are not the only publications that feel this way in regards to the top 3.

In my opinion, both Publications are wrong. Manny Pacquiao is not Boxing's best boxer. Look, I love Pacquiao. I love to watch him fight and I will always spend good money to watch him. He is very popular for damn good reason... but he is not the best. I like "Pacman" Pacquiao the person better than I like "Money" Mayweather the person... but I like Mayweather's skills a lot better than I like Pacquiao's skills. Pound for Pound, Mayweather Jr. is more skillful than Pacquiao.

"Pacman" Pacquiao gained the Pound for Pound title only after "Money" Mayweather (who the media called the best at the time), went into a self induced temporary retirement. Since being Pound for Pound Champ by default (thanks to Mayweather's retirement), Pacquiao has done nothing to prove he should hold on to the pound for pound title over Mayweather Jr., now that Mayweather is back in the game. If anything, "Money" Mayweather Jr's easy comeback victory against Juan Manuel Marquez should be the smoking gun to anyone that Pacquiao is not Pound for Pound better than "Money" Mayweather Jr. Pacquiao could never and has never done to Marquez what "Money" Mayweather did to him.

DUH...It's a No Brainer who is Better!

I have to wonder why am I one of the only expert in the Boxing world that realizes Mayweather Jr. is better than Pacquiao when it comes to the Pound for Pound Ranks / skills?  I bet if you ask these experts who would win between Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, most of them would pick Mayweather.

Seriously man, if you think Pacquiao is the Pound for Pound King... then all I can say is don't believe everything you read. Use your own Brain, your own Eyes, and think for yourself.

The only way I will ever think Pacquiao is better on a Pound for Pound level than "Money" Mayweather Jr., is... is if the two face off in the near future and Pacquiao wins. But honestly, I can not see Manny Pacquiao winning against "Money" Mayweather. (And should "Money" lose fairly to Shane Mosley when the two face off on May 1st...then Mosley will be the number one Pound for Pound best on my list.)

FOR THE RECORD

Pacquiao has a record of record of 51-3-2, 38 KOs and "Money" Mayweather's record stands at 40-0, 25 KOs. One of Pacquiao's losses came at the hands of Erik Morales. No offense to Morales, but "Money" Mayweather could have a bad case of diarrhea and still be the one to knock the sh!t out Morales on fight night. In other words, "Money" Mayweather would never have lost to Morales. (Many can argue successfully that Morales was on the downside of his career when he faced and defeated Pacquiao.)

My Top 3 Pound for Pound are:
1: Floyd Mayweather Jr.
2: Manny Pacquiao
3: Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs)
