Best in Boxing? Kevin Iole on why Floyd Mayweather Jr over Manny Pacquiao
By Johnny Benz (May 4, 2010) Doghouse Boxing
Right now it is an absolute no-brainer who is the best Pound for Pound in Boxing. It's hands down Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and not Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao. Plently of people are coming forward with the same assessment as myself.
Ring Magazine, a great publication that prides itself on being the Bible of Boxing recently posted their updated Pound for Pound list. Manny Pacquiao is still on top of their list, which leaves many of us in the industry scratching our heads over such blatant silliness.
However, one such Ring Panelist and journalist for Yahoo.com, Kevin Iole does not agree with many of his counterparts at Ring.
Quoted on Ring TV, Iole stated: "I have great respect for what Pacquiao has accomplished in the last three years and there is a very legitimate argument that he has accomplished more in the ring than Mayweather. That said, the fight with Mosley proved conclusively to me why Mayweather is the best."
Iole added: "He fought offensively and stalked a man many thought he would run from. Yet, even though Floyd fought offensively, Mosley could still barely touch him. Mosley only landed 42 power shots in the entire fight, but what is incredible to me is that 13 of those were in the second round. Other than the second, Mosley landed fewer than three power shots a round. That's a testament to Floyd's skill as a fighter."
Folks, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind who is the better skilled fighter...and obviously if and when "Money" Mayweather vs. "Pacman" Pacquiao comes off (and I believe it will)... I think the outcome is going to further prove just how foolish it is for the Ring to have Pacquiao still ranked number one.
