Legendary Boxer Dies after battle with Lung Cancer

Joseph Miceli, who fought as a welterweight and a massed 110 professional bouts during his career has passed away. Miceli, died Saturday at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore at the age of 79. Miceli succumbed to lung cancer.

Miceli was born on January 8, 1929, in New York and rose up the ranks in the 1950's to become one of the top 10 welterweight boxers of the era.

Miceli had 37 of his fights shown on television, and fought the likes of notable fighters such as Ike Williams and Kid Gavilan.
