With Manny Pacquiao refusing to take the low end of a 70/30 split of the purse to fight Oscar De La Hoya, a number of high profile fighters are ready to take his place. De La Hoya is by far Boxing's most popular fighter, and the list of fighters wanting a piece of him is long.

According to the highly respected CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, the list of possible opponents for De La Hoya include Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton, Vernon Forrest, Roy Jones Jr, and Sergio Mora just to name a few. Schaefer tells the LA Times: "Every fighter in the world wants to fight Oscar."

Other names such as Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams make the list. Schaefer quoted in the LA Times states: "You can make a pretty good case for Margarito." Schaefer added: "You can certainly make a case for Paul Williams."

Whatever direction Team De La Hoya chooses to go in, one thing is for certain, Schaefer plans to keeps details of negotiations from becoming public. Schaefer regrets that negotiations for De La Hoya vs Pacquiao was discussed so openly in the public. "It doesn't really help the cause if everything is publicly discussed," stated Schaefer, adding: "I wish I wouldn't have discussed the Pacquiao negotiations."
