A published report out by the AFP indicates that Anthony Burgin, the man who was seriously hurt in a car crash caused by Naseem Hamed has been charged after an alleged driving incident. The incident involves Hamed's wife, lawyers said Tuesday.

AFP further reports that the lawyer for Anthony Burgin said her client was "surprised and upset" by the charge.

Hamed was jailed in May 2006 after he caused a 90 miles per hour head-on collision while driving his Mclaren Mercedes Benz. The car accident left Burgin in critical condition with fractures to every major bone in his body. Burgin's wife was also with him and seriously injured.

Hamed then left the scene of the accident and went on to serve time in jail for the accident.

Hamed was sentenced 15-month sentence but only served 16 weeks.

"Following an alleged incident between our client Mr Anthony Burgin and Mrs Eleasha Hamed, wife of former boxer Naseem Hamed, on April 19, 2007, our client has been charged with dangerous driving," said Jane Wright who was quoted by the AFP.

"Mr Burgin is both surprised and upset by this allegation. At this time, our client does not know upon what basis this charge has
been brought."
