This past Saturday in Northern California at Berkeley's West-Wind Karate School, boxing's extremely popular Manny Pacquiao held a public workout in front of an impressive crowd of several hundred fans. Quoted at the event by Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, Pacquiao told those on hand how important his popularity in the United States meant to him and how he wants to prove not all boxers are like Mike Tyson.

Pacquiao stated: "It's very important to me to be popular here in the States, because my goal is not only for that reason . . . but someday, I want to show people that to be a boxer is not about boxing only."

Paquiao went on to add: "To show them that we need to be approachable to the people and communicate with the people; and the fighters should know that there's God in the ring. Not like some boxers, you know, Mike Tyson, 'I'm going to knock you out!' "
