It has been widely expected that Oscar De La Hoya would fight two to three more times before hanging up the gloves for good. Those plans have now changed and De La Hoya has now moved retirement plans to include only one last fight, then call it quits.

On Wednesday, De La Hoya confirmed he was only committing himself to one more fight before retiring. The retirement fight will occur before the end of this year.

Speaking to Reuters over the phone, De La Hoya stated: "One more and that's it. ... This is my final year. I'm doing one fight and hanging up the gloves."

It had been anticipated that De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. would fight a rematch this September, but with Mayweather Jr's abrupt and sudden retirement from boxing, the fight is no longer an option.
