Tokyo - Edwin Valero retain his WBA super featherweight title and remains unbeaten after defeating Takehiro Shimada by TKO in round seven (1:55).

After the fight, Valero had this to say of his opponent: "Shimada was really a tough fighter." Valero even questioned himself during the fight if he could even knock Shimada out. "I thought at one point that I would not finish with a knockout and it would be a decision," said Valero.

Valero added that he has a difficult time in the division and would like to move up in weight to challenge the WBA champ. Valero stated: "It is difficult for me to continue in this class. I want to step up to the lightweight. If possible, I want to fight WBA champion Yusuke Kobori."

Valero's record now stands at 24-0, (all by KO) and Shimada's record drops to 22-4-1, with 15 KOs.
