Returning
to the ring for the first time since March of 2011, Demetrius "The
Gladiator" Hopkins (30-2-1, 11 KO's) is looking forward to resuming his
promising career at 147 pounds tomorrow night against Doel Carrasquilla
(16-21-1, 14 KO's) of Fredericka, Delaware. A longtime standout at
junior welterweight, the slick boxing 31-year-old from Philadelphia is
the nephew of ageless future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins and obviously
has the genes to extend his prime for many years. Now he wants to show
the world that he's back and here to stay. Carrasquilla, a tough
38-fight veteran who has been fighting professionally since 2001 will
look to upset Hopkins' return to the ring.
Also
seeing action on the undercard will be Los Angeles' Edgar Valerio
making his professional debut against debuting Fernando Fuentes of
Riverside, Calif. in a scheduled four round bantamweight fight. Another
area prospect making his professional debut this Saturday is Santa Ana's
Jesus Gutierrez, who battles Las Vegas' Rocco Espinoza (3-6) in a four
round lightweight contest. Rounding out the card will be a six round
junior lightweight battle pitting Santa Ana's Jose Correa (7-2, 4 KO's)
against Phoenix' Cesar Valenzuela (3-1-1, 1 KO).
