Nov 24, 2003 Photo: Danny Moore / Inside Boxing (Camarena-left, Arceo-right) Click photo for larger view LAS VEGAS, Nevada (November 22, 2003) Donald Camarena takes his show on the road in hopes of being recognized by the hierarchy of boxing when he traveled to Las Vegas to face undefeated and WBC FECRBOX champion Luis Arceo. It was evident Camarena was the better fighter, it was apparent from the start Camarena was the fighter who possessed the better skills. The only thing lacking from this road trip is the “W”. “Going on the road to fight as an opponent is tough, it’s especially hard when you know you are fighting the promoters “boy”. When a fighter steps into the ring you put all your faith into the hands of the judges, we were hoping they (judges) would be fair. After all if you see a fighter with some class and a whole lot of talent, you would think the judges would want help not hurt the guy.” Said Aurelio Martinez, Camarena’s Trainer and Manager. Many people in attendance also felt Camarena was robbed of a victory as they voiced their dissatisfaction when the scoring was announced. After the victory was rendered in favor of Arceo, Camarena acknowledged the crowd by going to all sides of the ring holding his hand high. In doing so, Camarena received cheers and standing ovations. “Donald is the best fighter I’ve seen from Colorado in the 4 years I’ve been at the Orleans. He’s championship materiel.” Said Brad Goodman of Top Rank. Taking nothing from Arceo, he too is of high quality materiel, he pressed the action from beginning to end. Taking solid shots, shaking them off and continued to press. An outstanding boxer to say the least. The boxing world will hear plenty more from both of these fighters… A new generation of champions to come. A good sign for boxing fans. “I do what I do in the ring, I make them (opponents) miss then I score. I never look for a knock out but when I get a guy hurt I will go for the knock out. Said Camarena. “Luis was one tough guy, from the start he was going for the kill. He never gave me the opportunity to go on an all-out offensive attack. I had to rely on defense and counter punching. I give him his props.” Added Camarena. Martinez also told us he will pursue a rematch with Arceo in Colorado. “I’m hopeful Luis will give us the opportunity of redemption.” You can always bet the losing side of a hard fought battle will cry robbery so InsideBoxing will be converting the fight video into a downloadable file so you, the boxing fan can view and make a decision as to who you think won this fight. Inside Boxing should have the file available in the next few days. InsideBoxing.com will notify members of their eGroup mailing list when the file is ready along with any instructions.
