Saul Canelo Alvarez calls on Miguel Cotto. Sign the fight contract.

In an open letter to the boxing media former WBC junior middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez has called on WBC middleweight champ Miguel Cotto to sign the contract and fight him in the ring on May 2.

Below is the open letter to the media...

“In this personal letter to the media, I, Canelo Alvarez ask Miguel Cotto to stop running scared and put his signature to the contract for May 2, because this fight is to revive the great battles between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.

“I don’t understand what is going on here. I already gave Miguel Cotto many of the things they were asking to do the fight and a month has gone by and he hasn’t decided to sign the contract. I’m young and obviously don’t remember many fights of the past, but from what I know no Puerto Rican ran from a Mexican, nor a Mexican from a Puerto Rican. This is a boxing classic and what the fans want to see.

“I spoke with my promoter Oscar de la Hoya and he confirmed that I’ll fight on May 2, 2015 and Miguel Cotto is the opponent who heads the list. Thank God I have other options, but I think the fans of the world, especially in Puerto Rico, want to see me face a big name like him.”

Alvarez added that if Cotto doesn’t take the fight, he’ll go down in history as one who turned down a return clash with a fighter who defeated own brother.
