The vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Cruiserweight title will be on the line, when reigning WBF Intercontinental champion Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf takes on veteran Hungarian contender Gabor Halasz on March 6 in Berlin, Germany.

Algerian-born Benmakhlouf is on a three fight winning streak since losing a decision to living legend Roy Jones Jr. in December 2013, and captured the WBF Intercontinental crown last December by defeating Croatian Tony Visic in France.

He currently brings a 20-4-1 (10) record as he enters his first world championship opportunity, while Halasz, also in his first crack at a world title, is 36-15 (15), having won his last nine bouts, four of which were for smaller titles. At 37 and 36 years of age, it could be make-or-break for both fighters.

Halasz, curiously nicknamed “Big Daddy Fisherman”, turned professional in 1999, and fought a long line of big names. However, it looked as if he would have to settle for gatekeeper status before he started his current run, which is closing in on four years without a defeat.

Besides the loss to Jones Jr., French-based Benmakhlouf has only been beat on three occasions where he fought at Heavyweight, and at Cruiserweight he is determined to finally make his breakthrough after eleven years in the paid ranks.

Promoter of the Benmakhlouf vs. Halasz WBF World Cruiserweight title fight, and supporting undercard, will be Nasser Lalaoui.
