DOVER, Del. — For only the second time in his career, unbeaten World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion Amir “Hardcore” Mansour was taken the distance when he retained his title on Friday, Aug. 23, at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Del.

After two first-round knockouts earlier this year, Mansour battled through severe kidney inflammation, dehydration and tough, savvy and experienced challenger Maurice Harris to win a 12-round unanimous decision to defend the WBF Intercontinental belt and capture the vacant USBA heavyweight title in the process.

Both boxers unloaded flurries of punches, but it was Mansour who proved to be more than just a knockout specialist.  Mansour took the fight to Harris and pounded the taller, heavier Harris with unrelenting body punches.

Mansour, at 6’1” and 226 pounds, gave away substantial weight to the 6’4”, 249-pound Harris.

Judges Joseph Pasquale, Brian Costello and Mark D'Attilo voted unanimously in favor of Mansour with scores of 116-112, 119-109 and 120-108, respectively.

Mansour improved his professional record to 19-0 (14 KO), while Harris fell to 26-18-2 (11 KO).

An expected WBF elimination bout against an opponent to be named is set for Nov. 22 at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.  The winner of that bout becomes the mandatory challenger for WBF title holder Carlos Takam, in a fight expected in early 2014.
