Undefeated British heavyweight hope Tyson Fury has revealed that he is no longer interested in facing David Price, instead he has turned his attention to taming his 41 year-old conqueror, American Tony Thompson. Prior to Price’s somewhat shock second round stoppage defeat at the hands of Thompson there was every chance the two heavyweight hopes would collide in an all British showdown but has now dismissed any chance of a showdown.

"I’ve got no interest in fighting David Price," Fury recently told the Manchester Evening News. "It’s dead in the water.

"What’s the point in fighting someone who was knocked out in two rounds? If I don’t do the same to him then people will say I couldn’t even do as good a job as a 41-year-old.

"I had the opportunity to make big money out of fighting David Price. I was hoping to get him after Tony Thompson.

"Now a super fight in the summer has been messed up but maybe I’ll get a big fight in America with Thompson.

"I was hoping Price would win. I didn’t want him to lose because it is taking bread out of my mouth."

However, before Fury can even think about facing Thompson he must take care of business against former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham on his US debut at Madison Square Garden in New York on April 20.

Speaking about the possibility of facing Thompson next and Cunningham, Fury said: "Cunningham is a lot harder fight. After him I will take Thompson and show Price how to deal with a granddad. I guarantee it won’t last longer than three rounds. I will blitz him.

"I don’t want America to think all Brits are like David Price. I can’t let Thompson get away with that - I will have to take him out for Price."

In other British heavyweight news, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has broken his silence about defending his title against David Haye. Haye has repeatedly called out Vitali but the elder Klitschko has kept quiet until now.

Speaking to boxingbet.pl, Vitali said: "David Haye had an opportunity to face me on September 10 in Moscow. All the necessary paperwork was sent to him, all he needed to do was sign the contract.

"Unfortunately, David refused. It meant his train drove away."

It looks like Michael Sprott’s reward for out-pointing the previously undefeated Edmund Gerber on points last December is a non title 10 rounder against unbeaten Scandinavian heavyweight Robert Helenius in Magdeburg, Germany on March 23. It is believed all parties have agreed terms.
