By Clive Bernath; Providing Manny Pacquiao comes through his December
8 battle with long time rival Juan Manuel Marquez his promoter Bob Arum
has confirmed that he has booked him to fight again on April 20, 2012.
It’s good news for Pac Man fans as the Filipino boxing legend has no
immediate plans to retire but quite where that leaves a ‘Super Fight’
with fellow pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr is anyone’s guess.
Speaking to the Manila Bulletin on Wednesday Arum said: “I have
talked with Manny and we agreed to hold his fight (in 2013) on April
20.” The April date seems a sensible choice since this comes after the
US NCAA college basketball finals in March and before the elections in
May.
One small point, however, could put the April 20 date in jeopardy.
What happens if Pacquiao loses to Marquez and loses big? Losing big,
however, is very unlikely, especially since the first three fights have
been unbelievably close but you just never know in this crazy and
unpredictable sport. Arum, however is not taking anything for granted
but says neither fighter would want a fifth fight anyway.
