By Jerry Glick reporting. It may sound strange, but it was two New York
residents who vied for the New York State Jr. Welterweight title on Joe
DeGuardia’s Star Boxing show at the NYCB Theater in Westbury, NY. All
too often we see a New Yorker against someone from Iowa, or some other
State fighting for a New York State belt, not on Saturday night, Bronx resident Issouf Kinda made his first defense of the
belt against Astoria’s “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis by outpointing him.
The unbeaten, 24 year old, Kinda 15-0 (5 KOs), outworked veteran
Arnaoutis over ten hard fought rounds. Arnaoutis, 139 pounds, was
undefeated with a 17-0-2 record before losing to Ricardo Torres in '06;
he is 7-8 since including this loss. He was stopped twice, but he lost
to some very tough guys; he was a prospect, who is now a gate keeper.
Kinder, 140 pounds, worked his way past this gate, now his career is
rising and “Mighty” Mike, now 24-8-2 (7 KOs), needs to think about his.
