Mexican Odilon "Olimpico" Zaleta defeated Armando Torres via a TKO in
the 12th round to win the W.B.C. FECARBOX light flyweight title.
Zaleta imposed the rhythm of the fight with the power of his punches,
but left it late to close the show in the final round, at the Foro
Polanco in Mexico City.
From the opening bell, both attacked, hardly taking a backward step.
Zaleta surprised Torres and sent him to the canvas in the first round
with a pinpoint combination to the jaw, but Armando managed to beat the
count.
Torres was again back on the canvass in round two, this time courtesy
of a left hook to the face. Again he beat the count from Referee Rafael
Saldaña.
From round five onwards Torres started to balance the action, and
fought back, thrilling the fans. But when he was dropped hard in the
final stanza, again attempting to struggle back to his feet, the referee
had noted enough and drew the curtain down on any further action.
