Whilst Paulie Malignaggi weighed in successfully on Friday prior to
the defence of his WBA welterweight title at the Barclays Center in
Brooklyn,New York his opponent Pablo Cesar Cano scaled 148lbs 4oz, 1lbs
4oz over the limit. Cano had a full hour as per the championship rules to make weight but
still failed to , If Cano defeats Malignaggi he will not win the title.
There was better news for Mexican legend Erik Morales. Not only did
he make the weight ahead of his world title challenge against Danny
Garcia but he also passed a third drug test.
Morales tested positive for clenbuterol on the 4th and 10th of this month, but then tested negative for the drug in a third test on
Wednesday according to the New York Daily News.
Late Friday Morales tweeted “No need to worry about the
psychological issue. I’m very focused on the fight, I’m a clean
athlete.”
