By Derek Bonnett. Yesterday at Crocus City Hall, Russia, big punching W.B.A. cruiserweight champion
Denis Lebedev set off a shot heard around the boxing world as overly
eager pundits finalized their year-end awards, including KO of the Year.
Lebedev, 33, stopped previously unbeaten Colombian Silander Silgado
at 2:16 of round number four. A left uppercut ended an exciting round,
leaving Silander as nothing more than a 193.5 pound splat on the canvas.
Referee Mikael Hook began a count, but waved off the contest upon a
brief examination of Silgado. The one shot KO easily rivals the best we
have seen from Juan Manuel Marquez, Danny Garcia, and Randall Bailey in
2012.
Lebedev, of Chekhov, Russia, defended the full WBA title for the
first time since winning the interim belt two fights back. He improved
his dossier to 25-1 (19). Silgado, 27, dropped to 23-1 (18).
