Hit by snow storms, Ukraine’s icy roads have just recovered from record high traffic jams in the freezing air, but the evening’s headliner, international clash for the vacant WBO European light middleweight championship between Ukraine’s Sergey ‘Professor’ Fedchenko (32-2, 14 КО)and German based Azeri Azad ZZ Azizov (26-4-2, 16 КО) came as a hot and rewarding experience to watch.

  Fedchenko established his authority early with a crisp left jab and sustained the pace for 12 rounds, punishing Azizov with solid uppercuts and right crosses. He had all kinds of tricks for his man and was boxing clever at the same time with a full of championship heart. Fedchenko won a unanimous decision is a sweaty battle with unheralded, but very stubborn opponent, in a way, having this December re-established himself after last April unanimous loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in Mexico city (which today, after Manny Pacquiao’s loss sounds almost like a career achievement).

  The pick of 10 undercard fights saw Russian heavyweight prospect Vladimir Tereshkin appear as the most exciting athlete to watch, he had convincingly dispatched his Ukrainian opponent Maxym Pedyura and won a unanimous decision in their six rounds contest.  

Ukrainian living dancing legend Vyacheslav Uzelkov won a first round tko win in a perfect mismatch with sluggish Hungarian journeyman Gyorgi Marosi.
