Mikkel Kessler is determined to defeat Carl Froch in front of his own
fans and prove his previous win was no fluke. Froch’s preparations were
hampered ahead of their previous meeting in 2010 when a volcanic ash
cloud disrupted his journey to Denmark.
Kessler won that bout on points and says he is now in even better shape ahead of Saturday’s showdown at the O2 Arena.
The Dane said: "Some reporters asked ’what’s in this for you? You’ve beaten him once. Why give him a rematch?’
"I wanted this fight and I don’t think there is a bigger one in the
world right now. I shook Carl’s hand and said I’ll fight him in his home
country. I’m a man of my word and that’s why I’m here.
"I want to show Carl that I’m better than him. I’ve had some losses
outside of Denmark but I really feel prepared this time. Along with my
trainer, Jim Montoya, we’ve been working on a good gameplan for Carl.
"I feel fast, hungry, better than ever before. I’ve never had the IBF
title. You want to try new things in life and I want to show Carl and
all his boxing fans that I’m better than him."
