Boxing Results. Frankie Gavin sent out a clear message to Britain’s welterweights at the Liverpool Olympia in Liverpool on Friday by scoring an impressive seventh round stoppage win over Denton Vassell.
Gavin, who added the Commonwealth crown to his British title, won the battle of the unbeaten fighters ruthlessly walking through Vassell and possibly inflicting a broken jaw in the process. Gavin, who improved his record to 16-0-(12), also sent out a clear message to rivals Kell Brook and Lee Purdy as to who is the domestic No.1 at 147lbs.
Gavin set about Vassell from the opening bell by forcing his opponent back and connecting with accurate well timed punches. Vassell did have his moments but Gavin quickly regrouped to pick his punches with more thought and accuracy.
The fight was stopped after a big left hand by Gavin landed flush on Vassell’s jaw. the ringside doctor inspected the suspected injury at the end of the round and referee Howard Foster was forced to stop the fight.
