On Saturday night, in devastating fashion Rocky Fielding defeated Ghanaian Mohammed Akrong with a first-round stoppage on the ’War’ card from the Olympia, Liverpool. With the victory, Fielding (a local, fighting on home turf) not only improves his record to 16-0, but he also wins the vacant Commonwealth super-middleweight title.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the fight, Fielding stated: "He comes to have a tear-up but I planned to just stick to my boxing, using angles and moving side-to-side. That's was what I was planning on doing, but I caught him."
Also on the card and with similar results, highly rated Callum Smith made short work vs. Patrick Mendy with a first-round stoppage.
