For the second week in a row boxing fans will be able to indulge in a premium heavyweight contest on regular cable TV when Sam Peter vs. Eddie Chambers airs at 10 PM ET on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. The heavy-handed Peter, 30-2, 23 KO’s, will look to rebound from a one-sided beating he suffered in his last fight against Vitali Klitschko. His opponent in the scheduled 12-round main event is the classy Philly fighter Chambers, 33-1, 18 KO’s, who is hungry to break into the big-time. The boxing betting odds for the Sam Peter vs. Eddie Chambers fight have Peter as a slight 6:5 favorite.

This is a crossroads fight for both these American contenders to put themselves back in the heavyweight title picture. In Chambers biggest fight to date against undefeated Alexander Povetkin, Chambers started quickly only to run out of gas after about 3 rounds. Chambers could find himself staring at the ring lights if he trains half-assed against a devastating puncher like Peter. Peter, 28, may be damaged goods however after looking awful against Klitschko in his last bout. Peter is big, strong and stout but his mental stability is suspect. Peter’s mental focus will have to be hitting on all cylinders when he faces a lightning quick, smart boxer like Chambers that makes opponents pay for defensive lapses. The stocky Chambers is only a doubles hitter in terms of power but he does have an excellent defense that he uses effectively to find counterpunching opportunities. Chambers will have to employ a stick and move strategy against the far stronger but slower Peter to be successful. The boxing betting odds OVER\UNDER for Peter vs. Chambers is at 9.5 ROUNDS with the OVER at -220.

Does Chambers have enough power and stamina to hold off Peter? Has Peter developed enough boxing skill to connect with his bombs against such a slick fighter? Which one of these fighters wants to win more after the lackadaisical performances both turned in recently? Will Chambers speed make this fight a mismatch? Will Peter blow away the much smaller man early? Has Peter sorted out the mental demons in his mind after the Klitschko loss? The boxing betting odds Moneyline for Peter vs. Chambers is at Peter -120.
