Boxing Result: Tavoris Cloud Wins War Of Attrition Against Glen Johnson
By Brad Marchetti (Aug 8, 2010) Doghouse Boxing
Young and hungry light-heavyweight Tavoris Cloud retained his I.B.F title over perennial contender Glen Johnson in a fight that easily could have been fought in a phone booth. The grueling 12-round battle was a war of attrition and the younger Cloud, 21-0, 18 KO’s, was the fresher man late in the fight to earn a decision by scores of 116-112 on all three cards. Both fighters took turns exchanging bombs in every single round in one of the best fights of the year. The 41-year old Johnson, 50-14-2, 34 KO’s, was a “live” boxing betting underdog going in at +200 and the fight did appear to be closer than the scorecards indicated.

Both fighters came out blazing from the opening bell in the center of the ring. In the second round Johnson had Cloud hurt from a series of punches to the head and body but Cloud came back firing and survived. In the 5th Cloud had Johnson in real bad shape from a huge left hook to the temple but Johnson managed to last the round on wobbly legs. In the 6th Cloud went in for the kill and unloaded two-fisted volleys as Johnson covered up. Johnson weathered the storm however and came on strong at the end of the round.

In the 8th Cloud punished a tiring Johnson who gamely hung tough and managed to finish the round. In the championship rounds a dead tired Johnson showed his tremendous heart by constantly attacking but Cloud was a little fresher and hammered home some nice counterpunches. Johnson’s legs are not very good anymore and he fights in spurts but he still can give anybody in the world a headache.

Cloud is expected to face W.B.C champion Chad Dawson in a title unification bout provided that he gets by Jean Pascal this Saturday. Cloud is a legit two-fisted puncher that is well-conditioned and aggressive but at this point I would make Dawson the favorite because of his superior boxing skills and defense.
