Jason Estrada vs Domonic Jenkins Preview on ESPN2 with Betting Odds

The Jason Estrada vs Domonic Jenkins fight from the Mohegan Sun in CT, will be an interesting test for the 2004 U.S. Olympian heavyweight Estrada (13-1, 3 KOs) who is on the brink of becoming a contender. The ESPN2 co-main event at 9 PM ET is scheduled for 8-rounds in the heavyweight division with Rhode Island native Estrada expected to be the boxing betting favorite. Estrada’s dangerous opponent 6'5" Domonic Jenkins (13-8-1, 6 Kos) is an athletic fighter that has yet to beat B level opposition. Jenkins was a solid amateur, while Estrada was a glorified one, but with the little pro gloves on Jenkins has more power. Estrada is not a featherfisted hitter but he relies primarily on reflexes, handspeed and counterpunching. From a boxing skills standpoint, Estrada’s technique and footwork are on par with any heavyweight out there. Estrada will have a distinct height disadvantage in this bout, but Jason showed he can fight big guys when he outpointed 6'8" Mount Whitaker recently.

The 215-220 Lb. Jenkins has been known to wear down late in fights and against the stocky 240 Lb. Estrada a stoppage could be in the works in the 7th or 8th round. Jenkins has some ability but his offense and defense is pretty vanilla. Jason Estrada works at the sweet science well and he should pick apart Jenkins rather easily. Jenkins recently gave a good account of himself in a losing effort to prospect Chazz Witherspoon going the distance, but Jenkins has been stopped 4 times in his career. The Texan Domonic can move and jab pretty well but I expect Estrada to beat him to the punch and control the fight. Look for Jason Estrada to win this fight on points with his boxing IQ. Jason Estrada had this to say about his fight on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights with Jenkins: “I’m taking this fight completely serious, as if it’s for a championship, It’s these type of fights that guys take lightly and then get beaten. I know that this is an opportunity for me to move up in the heavyweight division.”
