Boxing enthusiasts need to tune into the Mike Jones vs Juliano Ramos 10-round welterweight fight this coming Friday on Telefutura at 8 PM ET. Mike Jones (13-0, 12 KO’s) has established himself as a fighter with some eye opening ability with his explosive KO’s. Juliano Ramos (15-1, 12 KO’s) is a recent Buddy McGirt product that just signed with Lou DiBella and is stepping up in class for the first time. Both of these young talents have only boxed 91 combined rounds so it could turn into a slugfest between two developing fighters.
Ramos is a fundamentally sound pressure fighter that will be trying to catch the counterpuncher Jones. Jones is more of a boxer than his record indicates as he likes to use jabs and movement to set up his bombs. Jones throws hard, punishing shots from looping angles with very good accuracy. From an athletic standpoint, Jones has major edges over Ramos in size, power and speed. Juliano Ramos has shown that he can take a decent shot and he might have a slight edge over Jones in the chin department however.
Buddy McGirt has been working on Ramos’s boxing skills but one wonders if this was too big a step-up for the Brazilian. Jones has some flaws defensively, but I don’t think Ramos will be able to put his hands on Jones that often. Ramos should be able to land some of his decent jabs but eventually, Ramos will get caught with something big. Jones is a fast-twitch athlete that should overwhelm Ramos around the 4th round with his power. Jones’s has been known to be inconsistent but his natural ability will allow him to KO the smaller Ramos.
