The time has come for the super fight of the year when Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez step into the squared circle tonight at 11 PM ET. Mayweather has been installed as the prohibitive favorite at -450 but money has been coming in on the underdog Juan Manuel Marquez at +300. Marquez is hungry to show that he is the most recent great Mexican fighter that is capable of defeating the best fighter on the planet. Does the 36-year old Mexican have enough to get the job done?

In this fight I expect the brilliance of Floyd Mayweather to show against a fighter that is still very-good but not athletically gifted or stylistically built to win. I expect Marquez to try and use his combination punching to try and tag Mayweather but Floyd’s defense is too superior.

Marquez is not a natural brawler and is more comfortable at boxing and countering. Marquez will not be able to outbox the best pure boxer in the sport and if he tries to brawl he could get hurt by the naturally stronger man in Mayweather who could out-weigh him by 10 lbs. at fight time. Marquez has enough power to hold his own in the trenches but his skin would shred like paper if he ate enough of Floyd’s lighting shots.

Pretty Boy Floyd has different ways to get the job done against Marquez who really holds no advantage in any department in this fight. Marquez has the will but he does not have the style or hand speed that is necessary to dethrone the pound-4-pound king.

Boxing Prediction: Floyd Mayweather Jr. -450 (3 UNITS).
