LAS VEGAS - World class light heavyweight contender Prince Badi Ajamu (24-2-1, 13 KOs) will be fighting for his boxing future January 27 against Galen Brown (22-3-1, 15 KOs) in "Collision Course, A Night of Champions," featuring three world championship matches and two other title fights, at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Prince Badi's Silverhawk Boxing stable-mate, two-time world champion Stevie "Lil' But Bad" Johnston (37-3-1, 17 KOs), fights former NABF and WBC Fecarbox lightweight title-holder Steve "The Mongoose" Quinonez (31-9-1, 11 KOs) for the vacant IBO light welterweight title in one of four guaranteed "Collision Course, A Night of Champions" pay-per-view card matches on the show promoted by Star Boxing, and presented by Silverhawk Boxing, Guilty Boxing, and Xyience. The special pay-per-view event is offered in the United States, Canada, France, Russia, Indonesia and Greece at a suggested retail price of only $24.95.
Prince Badi will defend one of his four title titles, the WBC Continental Americas light heavyweight crown successfully defended this past October via a ninth-round TKO of five-time world kickboxing champion Olando "The Warrior" Rivera, who at the time was rated No. 9 by the WBC. Last month Badi won a unanimous 12-round decision against Thomas Reid for the vacant WBC CABOFE (Carribbean Boxing Federation) belt. The 33-year-old Camden, New Jersey native also holds the IBC Intercontinental and Pennsylvania titles.
Now fighting out of Vero Beach (FL), Prince Badi is part of famed trainer Buddy McGirt's stable of warriors that also includes Antonio Tarver, Arturo Gatti and Stevie "Lil' But Bad" Johnston.
"The Boxing Prince," rated No. 11 by the World Boxing Council, feels an
impressive victory will position him for a major fight this year. "A win will put me in the driver's seat," Prince Badi said. "It's about belts, but not about belts. What it really comes down to is who people want to watch fight. (Antonio) Tarver and (Glen) Johnson gave up their belts and made a lot more money. The January 27 show is going to be a good platform for me to demonstrate my ability. I'd like a shot at Johnson or (Roy) Jones this year. I wouldn't duck anybody in my division as long as I get paid right. I'd fight Tarver, but we're both trained by Buddy (McGirt). I love him and wouldn't want him to choose.
"This will be my third fight with Buddy. He has me boxing more; you'll see me sticking and jabbing much more now than ever before. I'm up on my toes firing combinations, rather than digging inside and wearing down my opponent. I'm a lot more of a technical fighter. People are going to see more ring generalship and power boxing."
Prince Badi is promoted by Silverhawk Boxing and managed by Rider Boxing.
His fight against Brown is slated to be a "swing" bout on the PPV broadcast. "I'm working hard and have the best people around me," Prince Badi concluded. "I'm averaging 300 punches a round. I'm like lightning, very busy. This is my third fight with Silverhawk and after this fight everybody in boxing is going to know about them. I know Stevie's in top shape; I'm in top shape."
The guaranteed minimum four-fight PPV card is headlined by former three-time world champion Virgil "Quicksilver" Hill (49-5, 23 KOs) -- Silverhawk Boxing has a marketing agreement with him ? versus unbeaten Russian challenger Valery Brudov (20-0, 23 KOs) for the vacant WBA cruiserweight belt in the 12-round main event.
In addition to Johnston-Quinonez, the other guaranteed PPV fights are IBF minimumweight title-holder Muhammad "The Rock Breaker" Rachman (50-7-4, 22 KOs) defending his title against No. 1 contender Omar "Lobito" Soto (14-2-1, 10 KOs), while "Mighty" Mike Aranoutis (14-0-2, 6 KOs) fights Mark Thompson (13-0) for the NABO/USBA super lightweight crowns.
