On January 28, Arturo Gatti challenges undefeated Dane Thomas Damgaard (37-0, 27 KO’s) for the IBA welterweight championship.

Gatti’s trainer James “Buddy” McGirt offered his views on the upcoming bout:

On Damgaard: “He’s a credible guy. He’s tough, very durable, and he’s got a difficult style.”

On Damgaard being a southpaw: “I’m not concerned at all about that. Ward was a southpaw also. Ward was more dangerous because you didn’t know what to expect. He could switch up in the middle of a round.”

Gatti’s advantages in bout: “His boxing ability and his ability to adapt.”

Gatti at welterweight: “His attitude is completely different just because of the fact that he’s at a comfortable weight. He’s more confident, more natural.”
