UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Jan. 27, 2011) – “Irish” Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund, the inspirations behind the hit movie, “The Fighter,” will take part in a Q&A session Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Mohegan Sun to kick off the first of three open workouts hosted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports.

Ward, the former WBU light welterweight champion, and Eklund, Ward’s half-brother and a former welterweight from Lowell, Mass., who went the distance with “Sugar” Ray Leonard in 1978, will answer questions from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and sign autographs until 7 before Sean Eklund – Dicky Eklund’s nephew – and Vladine Biosse participate in a two-hour open workout session.

The workouts will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. to promote CES’ upcoming “Block Party” professional boxing event, which is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 4 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Biosse (9-0, 4 KOs) will defend his New England Super Middleweight title against Samson Onyango in the 8-round main event.

Friday’s open workout session will feature New Haven’s Edwin Soto and Luis Rosa and Hartford newcomer Javier Flores. Elvin Ayala, who is starring in the 6-round co-feature at “Block Party,” and Greg McCoy – both from New Haven – will participate in Saturday’s workout. All three sessions are open to the public.

Ward and Eklund were the inspiration behind David O. Russell’s 2010 box-office sensation, “The Fighter,” starring Mark Wahlberg as Ward and Christian Bale as Eklund. The film centers around the relationship between Ward and Eklund as Ward makes the leap from a “stepping-stone” fighter to a world champion. The two brothers will also be hand on Feb. 4 in Sean Eklund’s corner.

Tickets for “Block Party” are $40.00, $65.00 and $105.00 and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254 or calling Ticketmaster at 1.800.745.3000. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.cesboxing.com, www.ticketmaster.com, or at the Mohegan Sun Box Office.
